Adora has successfully passed the KCGC GOLD Award. She also starred as Sandy in the London run of the stage musical "Annie" and was voted "Dog Star in the Making" at the Dogs Trust Annual Honours Awards earlier this year (2010) They are both Therapy Dogs and visit hospitals, nursing homes, hospices and Day Centres in London. Max and Adora are Blue Cross Education Dogs going into schools, youth clubs and cubs and brownie packs to teach children how to act responsibly towards and safely around dogs as part of their very comprehensive training programme. They have both been representing the Akita Breed for the past 7 years at Discover Dogs. Both Akitas were jointly awarded The Unsung Heroes Trophy for the outstanding work that they do for charity. A wonderful accolade. In 2011 Max and Adora have also been awarded with the newly struck ENDAL MEDAL which will be presented to them at The London Pet Show and have been awarded a Commendation from the Director General of The PDSA for their DEVOTION TO DUTY. My Pets My Received Gifts My Message Wall 26 Oct 2010 14:32 Hi Sophie Thanks for your message. Yes, I have seen the film "Hachi- A Dog´s Tale". The distributors were extremely responsible. They contacted me several months before the film was released in the UK and invited me to a private viewing in Soho to get my feelings/thoughts about it. Sweet though the film is it is not an entirely accurate view of what the Akita breed is like. In the film Hachi is more or less portrayed as a big bouncy Lab type dog whereas Akitas require skilled and experienced handlers. Not a dog for a novice or first time dog owner. There was also a big worry from the Akita fraternity in the UK as well as the USA that this film may lead to an increased demand for Akitas and open the door to backyard breeders. Fortunately the General Manager of the Empire, Leicester Square who is a very experienced Akita owner invited our charity, Akita Rescue and Welfare (UK), into the cinema during the run of the film to be on hand to give realistic advice to cinema goers who had questions about the breed. It was a great success and I raised over £550 along with my dogs Max and Adora. Regards Robert 30 Sep 2010 15:42 Hi Robert I have just been looking at your akitas, they are such cute dogs and I must admit I have never seen one.
