Hi Elaine,
Ref: Preserving Spider moults.
I too have 6 Tarantulas,all ladies,they are:
'Taranaki' Bahia Grey Bird Eater
'Spinnet' Mexican Flame Red Striped Knee
'Minerva' Mexican True Red Leg
'Spinnaker' Pink Toe
'Chesara' Salmon Pink Bird Eater
'Mortiana' Mexican Red Knee
All have moulted during their time with me and I have kept every single moult.
I normally know when one is going into moult and normally see them lay
upside down and extract themselves bit by bit (such a wonder of nature).
Once the Tarantula has righted itself and ONLY then,do I carefully enter the terrarium without disturbing her and carefully remove the moult using our snake feeding tongs (like giant tweezers),the whole thing lifts out in one piece, normally still a little soft,it is then boxed in that spiders particular moult box and the moult date logged down in my spider notes.
The spider is left to regain her energy and bodily functions over the next few days and then feeding can resume again.
Hope this can be useful for you,all the best.
P.S I love your Siamese,I've got four girls of my own.

Hi Elaine - I can just imagine the panic when a tarantula escapes! What a wonderful image! Was everybody running around screaming or were you just afraid another pet would get to it first? My Roxy loves the spiders that run around my house - sadly for them. M

Hi Elaine - have you ever had a spider escape and do cats and spiders get on?

Are spiders hard to look after - I'd love to know a bit more about them.
