My Interests
The Budgerigar Society was founded in 1925 to provide a central organisation to administer to the needs of the growing budgerigar fancy.
Our first picture shows our General Secretary, Dave Whittaker manning the society's stand at the World Championship Show in Doncaster last November
We have, worldwide, a membership of over 4,000 members, who come from all walks of life and represent all points of view, race religion and other aspects of life. They are, however firmly united in their choice of hobby.
This wonderful fancy appeals to men and women, boys and girls, young and old, and all get something different from their hobby
Some are very keen on the exhibition side and show their birds at a number of events, large and small. Others like to breed birds for friends, and also to supply the pet trade to help towards the cost of seed etc.
Others simply enjoy keeping a collection of these colourful, fascinating parakeets, either in a small aviary in their back yard, garden or even a flight/ cage in a large alcove in their home.
Whatever form their interest in the hobby of budgerigar keeping takes, they are all equally welcome in our society.
We make only one demand of them; that they give their birds the respect and care that they deserve to secure their well-being and general health.
Could this be the hobby for you? The Budgerigar Society has a Powerpoint presentation available to anyone interested, who has the computer program to play it. For a brief "trailer" of some of the topics covered, access www.herringbrosbudgerigars.co.uk/PP3.htm

Hello again. Thank you very much for your information on colours of birds. I found the web-site particularly interesting and I hope to look for a book of some sort related to identifying colours of birds in my local library. Is there any particular one that you would recommend?
In response to your question, I live in Co. Cork, Ireland and I am a member of the Cork Cage Bird Society where there is one other budgie keeper. I am also receiving advise from one of my fathers work colleages who is a former budgie shower. Hopefully i will be able to enter my first show next year. Thank you again for your help.

P.S. For future reference please contact me at my new account (from which im writing this message). Thanks again.
