Hi Sarah

The horse quadrille thing I´m doing seems to be petty much drill riding to music - there have to be multiples of 4 in the team, and our team has 12 horses and riders. Very complicated!

Hey Sarah.

I am so, so sorry to hear about poor Pepper. How horrible. You definitely did the right thing though, however hard a choice it is. Rodents seem very prone to tumors, don’t they? What a shame…

I’ve just had some really bad news too. I feel like the worst rabbit owner in the world. Ginger and Pickle have been having dodgy tums on and off for about 2 months. One day Ginger had nothing to eat all day, (very unusual for him) and was so poorly I stayed up all night with him keeping him warm and giving him water off my fingers. We took to the vet the next day, and he just gave Ginge a vitamin B injection, and told me he´d be fine. While he picked up a bit, he still wasn´t eating right and he´d got really thin. I started feeding him a special recovery diet to help him put on weight, and washing the rabbit´s food in Evian in case it was bacteria in our water, but they still had this diarrhoea on and off. My sister also gave me probiotics and prebiotics to give them, which I did for about 3 weeks, but while they weren’t really ill again they still weren’t right. Last week Katie came down again and took a stool sample. Turns out they´ve both got worms and Coccidiosis. We´re going to try and treat it but it could easily be too late. I feel so bad that I didn´t do more weeks ago - I just didn´t realise it was so serious because they´ve always been prone to upset stomachs. Oh dear...

Been riding recently? I’ve still got Gullie but only just - I rode about 3 times over summer. It’s really depressing me because I don’t want to lose him. I had a really bad stomach bug which has left me more weak than ever. I can’t even help with the RDA at the moment. Hope you are riding again and that you confidence is growing. It is horrible to be nervous when you’re riding.

What a pain about the money situation – did the insurance cover your pipes? Why does everything have to come all at once!? I hope things are sorting themselves out now. Are you still doing that weekend job, and how’d your interview for that packing job go? I’m really beginning to miss work. I did an evening babysitting in the village a few weeks back. The kid was good and went to sleep fine and everything, (a relief because he has special needs and his mum seemed worried about how he’d cope.) It was 12.30 before his mum came back, and she was pretty drunk. I wouldn’t have minded that so much – everyone’s entitled to let their hair down once in a while, except that she brought 16 friends back with her! They were all laughing and shouting and swearing, and this big fat woman had her arm around me trying to kiss me! They even brought the karaoke machine down from the pub to continue the party in her tiny front room! I had to wait there 15 mins while she routed around trying to find my pay. I felt so sorry for the kid - what a scary situ for any child, let alone one with special needs.

Anyway, Floss is crying for a chew, (she’s nearly always crying for something!) So I’d better go. Hope things are looking up now, and that you and your menagerie are well.

Email soon!

Hi! Thanks for the lovely email. I still don’t feel great but my doc has prescribed me some pills to take, to help with back pain and stuff. They should make it easier for me to start riding again. Hope you’re all well?

I’ll bet the girls are really big now! Those are such lovely names. Is Pepper any less nervous? She sounds hyper! What fun! It’s brill that they’ve got the boys going too. Sounds like they’re a lot happier! Get some pics!!!

Aww, it must have been hard to hold off getting that bun. Reckon Freya was right though. I’m sure the bun got a good new home though. Every time I go to Pets At Home I find it v. hard to resist coming home with pocketfuls of pets!

Your poor dad, that’s rubbish!! Sounds like It’ll be a while before he’s better. Horses are a risky pastime! Talking of which, how’s your riding doing? I’m really sorry you’ve been having an unsettling time. I know from experience just how you feel! Bally sounds like a sweetheart. It makes sense to stick with quieter horse for a bit. It doesn’t mean you have to ride plodders forever – just get that confidence back! Wish I could lend you Gulls – he is special. I managed to take him for a small hack the other day. It was lovely because a lady who lives on the road I hacked down came hobbling out to say thank you. Can’t remember if I told you this, so I’ll tell you again! Skip this bit if I already did:

A couple of months ago, (before I got really ill), my parents went away for the week leaving me dog sitting. On her early morning walk I took Floss out on one of her regular walks. On the way I passed this lady, Babs, (she owns a stud farm near where I live), riding out, and a girl riding one of her other horse. We all said hi and carried on our separate ways. I took Floss for a long walk, and we were on our way back, (both hot and tired) when we met the girl leading both horses with their stirrups down and everything. I asked if she was OK, and she said Babs had been kicked and thought she’d broken her leg, (they’d been having a canter when the girls horse got overexcited and kicked out at Babs’ but caught her instead. I made poor Floss run down there, and Babs was lying on the ground with her bone sticking out of her leg! I stayed with her til the air ambulance came, and helped the paramedics – which was really cool! Floss was so unbelievably good, even when the helicopter landed and took off right next to her – she was amazing…

ANYWAY, so Babs saw me riding by and came out to say thanks, which was really sweet. It was nice to think I’d been a useful member of the public! :-D

Thanks for the link about the body protector. It looks pretty good. I’m gunna have to hold off doing anything about it though; I just don’t have the money! I need new boots and a new hat too. Maybe I’ll win the lottery or something!

Hope all’s well with you and The Clan. Tell all!

Hello! I’m really sorry it’s been awhile! Been ill again, really tired and weak and stuff. I’ve had to give up my job at the nursery, although I still babysit sometimes. I went to see a specialist last week and they think I’ve got ME. Have you heard of it? Anyway, I just haven’t felt up to email – but I’ve been wanting to catch up!

How’re you doing? Hope all is well with you guys, and you aren’t too sad about Koda. You should never feel guilty that you didn’t have him pts earlier – you had to give him a chance. I was in the same situ with my gerbils years ago, but I’m still glad I did all I could have done for them, even though it wasn’t successful. Like you say, otherwise you’d be thinking your whole life about whether you did the right thing or not.

OMIGOD! Can’t believe you went and got some girlies too! Pepper and Mya, isn’t it? How cute! Are the boys neutered? If not you could end up with quite a few more! :-D Tell me all about them!

Floss has been a lot better with the panicking thing recently, although she still jumps up and shakes when there are bangs. She never used to mind! She’s doing pretty well though. And the buns are good too. It really doesn’t seem like they’re 5! Like with your pair, it just shows how looking after pets properly pays off!

How’s your dad now? Hope he’s not really damaged himself! Riding is so dangerous! Talking of which, you still getting on with your new back protector? I could really use a decent one, (even though I’ve barely been near Gullie for weeks!). What make is it?

I’m sorry you’ve lost confidence, horse wise. I totally know how you feel though! Are you still riding Toffee? He sounds like just what I needed a few years ago. Hope you manage to build up your nerve and get on Commodor again. Let me know how you’re getting on!

Email soon with all your news, and sorry for the long delay in replying!
