Flossie & Floods!

I am sure you will all be aware of the recent major flooding last week in my part of the world. To say it came as a shock to me is rather an understatement! There I was one minute just North of Sheffield enjoying my third healing session of the day with a client named Flossie, a wonderfully placid Cleveland Bay horse, then the next minute I was being rescued by a 4X4!
I had become stranded in Flossie's paddock with a good few inches of water making it's way over to me from the farm track. The speed in which it came was truly amazing. Flossie's owner had taken a trip into town and as the farm is quite rural and the paddock a while away from the main house, I was left to get on with my healing work. I was coming to the end of the session when it started to spit with rain. I had the idea that it would be nothing more than a passing shower as I could see a break in the clouds. When I took shelter in an old hay barn nearby it was only when I saw the rain settling on the trackway, which is slightly lower than the paddock, that I became a little unsettled!
I could do nothing but stand and watch in amazement and was left wondering what state the main roads were in. After half an hour a Farmer from a neighbouring farm who was checking on his livestock saw me and told me to hop in his Landrover. He then proceeded to tell me that if I was heading into town to get home then I'd better be in for a long wait as 2 rivers had burst their banks and roads were being closed!
What should have been 45 minute drive home turned into six and a half hours! I ended up going 53 miles out of my way to get home. Luckily I arrived home safe and sound unlike so many people who just couldn't make it home due to all public transport being cancelled, they had to spend the evening in their place of work ~ Much as I love my healing work, the animals and the countryside spending the night at my place of work namely an old hay barn wouldn't have appealed to me one bit!
Blessings,
Niki x
