**** MOULT SEASON ****

Yes,the whole of the Arachnid stable, appear to be going through their annual moult, well nearly all of them, anyway.
I knew that a few were due because they had been off their food for a few months which is perfectly normal, prior to a spider moulting and as they don´t always make a moulting ´cradle´,it is not always predictable as to when exactly they will turn over onto their backs and begin the process of shedding their old exoskeleton.

So on three mornings I have come down or into the room and found what look´s to be like to be two spiders in one terrarium but is in fact one spider and it´s old skin.
´Spinnet´ the Mexican Flame Red Striped Knee, moulted first on the 2-10-07,then ´Mortiana´ the Mexican Red Knee and then just recently on the 9-12-7-07,was my Bahia Grey BirdEater ´Taranaki´.

All moulted well, with no problems (thank goodness) and the exoskeletons have been removed and stored, the date of moult logged in their records and they are slowly regaining their strength and all, ready to start eating again, very shortly.
They have all moulted now for this year, save for ´Minerva´ the Mexican True Red Leg and ´Chesara´,the Salmon Pink BirdEater as featured on this page....so they will soon be doing their bit soon,no doubt.

What a clever and exciting world we live in and nature is a sheer genius in it´s own special way.
