The Story of Dolcie

A friend of mine asked if I could re home a 6-9 month old staffy pup. I went round to see the pup and was taken aback by how freighted on men she was and of any loud noise. It later came out that the owner of the dog used to slap and beat her (the mother of the past owner took the dog off of her daughter so it did not suffer any more). I was later told that the boyfriend used to most of the abuse... hence the fact that the dog was so frightened of men.  I made my assent of the pup and came home and put notice up on Pet Street for some to help out.  I felt that she needed to go to a home where some one would have the time and patients to help her recover from her ordeal.  Several people were kind enough to contact me via Pet Street and I felt it was a positive response. Jan Ford on Pet Street contacted me within minutes my plea for some help was sent out. Jan had tried many re homing centres but for reasons unknown she was not allowed to re home a dog from theses places (I believe that it is because she has 2 cats and another dog… it’s hard to find a dog that can be re homed with other animals).  After exchanging a few messages I gave Jan a call and we discussed the puppy.  I went back to see the puppy 2 days later and to take some photos so I could show Jan what she looked like. Then on 20 February 2008 we took the puppy to Cambridge to her new home. My friend who is an RSPCA animal collections officer was kind enough to lend me a hand by driving myself and the dog up to Cambridge. She was extremely frightened and very nervous.  We arrived at Jans house... lovely house with a good size garden and a very mad but extremely lovable dog, 2 cats and a cockateal. At first she was a bit grumpy, but chilled out very quickly and was happy to sit with Jan and me. I message this morning from Jan saying that DOLCIE that is her new name is doing very well and slept with her partner (so much for being scared of me) and was playing happily in the garden with other dog. This rescue was defiantly worth all the effort and I know that Dolcie has gone to great home.  I would like to thank Jan for taking on this wonderful little staff… I wish them all the best...
