| Update on the Rescued HammiesAll the Winter Whites are now settled; some went to a friend in Bath, some to Andover, some to Wales & some to Worcestershire. The original 37 increased to 54 due to already pregnant females but I can stop boiling water & getting hot towels ready now (!!) as the last litter is weaned & doing well. The last litter was a worry because mum turned on the babies when they were 9 days old. I think she went temporarily mad due to the stress of multiple litters. I caged her separately in a quiet place to recover and hand fed the babies from my finger with lactol. They were reluctant to start with but, eventually, one got the idea & they all copied. They are now bouncing, fat little fur balls & adorable - 4 boys & 2 girls - which I am keeping. The mum too has recovered and is a placid, sweet natured hamster who will never have any more babies. 2 weeks ago, I picked up another 5 from a lady in Stroud. They were much older at 6 weeks but they all have homes too. There were 3 pearls & 2 sapphires which were snapped up by my friend very quickly. (she adores pearls & sapphires). It gets very noisy indoors at night when all the nippers come out on their wheels but they're all settled now that's the main thing. Comments 02 Mar 2008 22:00 Thank you for your comments Vena. I think they're so cute too & although it's challenging, & often heartbreaking, I wouldnt give my animals up for the world 02 Mar 2008 09:56 The babies are Sooooooo cute, what a wonderfull job you have done. |
