Big Dave, Nev, Barry & MIck

The Winter White boys from the last (and final litter) had been living happily together since they were born. Sadly though, there was a disagreement and Nev, Barry & MIck all started to pick on Big Dave to the extent that I had to take him out of the group for his own safety.
Poor little guy. He's so gentle and hates any kind of aggravation. The 3 bullies are happy again & all sit in the sand bath together like the three wise monkeys.
Big Dave has a cage to himself now with lots of enrichment. He also has more time out in the playbox than the others.
This is one thing that Dwarf hamster owners should be aware of. A same sex group can get along for weeks, months even years then, for no apparent reason, all hell breaks loose and someone gets singled out to be picked on.
When this happens, they MUST be separated or there will be a tragedy.
Dwarfs have lots of noisy squabbles anyway, that's just the way they are but when it gets to the point of drawing blood, it's serious.
Big Dave is quite happy to have my company & lots of attention. In fact, I dont believe he misses his brothers at all!

Hi Rosie I also had that problem once i had 2 same sex dwarf hamsters that lived happily together for 6 months and then all of a sudden they had a full out and i had to separate them and they never went back together and i warn people that take 2 or more same sex dwarf hamsters from me that this can happen.
Best Wishes
Brenda
