Two years ago, whilst walking in my local park, I had the idea that if
I could put up a range of nest boxes for a variety of birds it would
make a useful contribution to conservation. They do however cost a bit
of money (the decent Schwegler woodcrete ones cost about £20+ from
Jacobi Jayne).
I then had my idea - what great synergy if local estate agents
sponsored the nest boxes. (Homes for people/homes for birds . . .).

So after I got the approval of the local council conservation
officer, I took a letter round to all the local estate agents to see if
they might be interested in sponsoring a few nest boxes for the park.
One in particular, (Benham and Reeves), immediately appreciated the
concept and offered to fund some boxes.
Then Graham Evans the MD of Jacobi Jayne, said he thought it was a good
idea and offered to discount boxes bought as part of this scheme. So in
time for National Nest Box Week my Benham and Reeves sponsored nest
boxes went up in my local (Waterlow) park.

I then wondered if it might work for Highgate Woods and it looks like
Benham and Reeves will again sponsor the boxes, with the Corporation of
London chipping in too. Now we are trying to make the scheme work
nationally, so people everywhere can get local estate agents, or other
businesses, to sponsor nest boxes. The scheme is called Nesting Spaces.

In the meantime I was featured on the BBC Springwatch show which help raise awareness of the idea, though they did not mention the NestingSpaces scheme! I dont know why.

I am getting increasingly cheesed off with fireworks - not the pretty ones but the loud ones that sound like a bomb going off and scare both pets and wildlife. There are so many people that care about pets in the UK - maybe we can organise ourselves to have these loud fireworks banned??
