Just a quick blog as I've to take Daz to the vets for a check up in half an hour!  Daz had his 'operation' on Monday so is now.. well.. to put it bluntly 'nutless'.  I just have a quick question for everyone who has had a puppy castrated.
Daz seems to have had a personality transplant since the op and has been very naughty, I'm hoping that it will settle down but I've been tearing my hair out as he now fights against the lead and jumps up and is very very excitable.  Anyone else had this problem?

He also had his spare dew claw removed, I debated whether or not to have that done as it was his unique bit of his body (he only had one on his back right leg) - maybe that's why he's changed?  He want's it back!

Ah well, I'll keep you informed!

I ordered a harness off my wholesaler today, thought I'd better try the goods before I start to sell them!  I tried it on Daz first and he was quite puzzled as to what I was doing and quite rightly as I'd put it on upside down!  It got me all in a tizzy as he was wriggling and I couldn't work out which bit went where but we got there eventually and he wandered around sporting his new 'item' lol, he looked quite proud.  Anyway after giving him a time to get used to it I took him up to the field to see if he could pull, but as he doesn't really pull anyway it was a lovely walk.  Daz has been a joy to train and is one of those dogs who always look up at you to check he's doing the right thing.  The only real problem I have with him is his 'vocality'.  He barks and barks.. and barks, and if I tell him to stop he does - and starts 'vocalising' for the want of a better expression!  Not quite barking but not whining.. somewhere inbetween - it really comical at times.  It's a bit odd trying to sort this out as he usually barks for a reason - one of the other dogs has taken his chew, Jeff the old greyhound is staring at him (Jeff is good at that) and he doesn't like it, Jeff is in the doorway and won't let him past, so you see he has a reason to bark it's just that the other dogs don't take any notice of him!  Just now I'm using the dog whistle to call him to me to stop him barking but that doesn't solve the problem, just puts it off for a while!  Ah well I suppose I'll just have to keep sorting out whatever he's barking for - the sooner he realises he can take his chew back or walk past Jeff the better!

Ah I digressed.. back to the harness.  I then put the said harness on Spindle, a little quicker this time as I had an idea how to do it.  Once again I waited a while until he was used to it before taking him for a walk.  He's not as good as Daz on the lead though but he still couldn't really pull so I'm quite impressed.  I can't get him to the 'all eyes on me' stage but I'm sure it'll come.  What I need is a treat that he just can't ignore as the ones that my other dogs like don't seem to tempt him as much.  He has really settled a lot in the last few days.  He's more of a border collie than Daz so I think he need to feel that he's doing something rather than just playing.  I got three plastic cups today and put little holes in the top then let them both watch me put a treat under one of them then left them to find which one the treat was under.  I was good fun watching them work it out!

Anyway, enough for this blog - don't want to tire your eyes out!

Well not exactly testing the dogs - more the dogs testing out all the goodies I bought today for my website!  I told them when I went out that I'd bring them some treats back.  I don't go out often due to limited mobility so when I do go out I like to leave them with something to do and bring them something back (maybe I'm a little bit too soft!)

Well today I've come back with alsorts of things, they are testing the breath fresh chews as we speak - very minty and have lasted an hour and a half so far and I only gave them half a one each!  The only problem I can see is that Daz's white paws are now a lovely shade of green!  But I have that problem with anything that has colour in it!

I think next to test will be the dog frisbee, it has bits on it that they will be able to get hold of instead of pushing it along with their nose trying to get a hold of it like they do with their old one!  Funny to watch but a bit frustrating for them.  I really must dig out the camcorder and take some video, they really are a joy to watch!

Bye for now

It seems I've posted my first blog under my dog Spindles name!  So here I am posting again, hopefully in the right place now!  I've also put all my pets on now and some more photo's.  As you may gather my pets are a huge part of my life!

Hello PetStreet,
what a nice place to visit!  I hope I can stick around for while :)  I''ll be adding to my blog with antic's and stories of my lovely dogs.  Jeff, the old man of the pack who is a rescue greyhound and has been with me for four years.  Meg the border collie who has been part of our family for two years along with her two sons Daz and Spindle who came along in January (Spindle was the first born on the 3rd and Daz who made an entrance in the early hours of the 4th).  I have my own pack to watch and study each day and they are a total joy to me :)   Oh, not forgetting Iggy - who has honoured us with her presence for three years now, Iggy the cat (Iggy as in Ignorant) rules all the dogs with an Iron Paw - a true leader!

I'll write more soon
