Title Minor Veterinary Treatment

Description

I have also posted this on the Rabbit forum.

One of my daughters rabbits had to have one back tooth clipped and it cost me £124.
The anaesthesia alone was £60 & rabbits only need, literally, a whiff of gas.
Having worked in a vets I know that this procedure takes less than 5 minutes so as well as adding to the everyday cost of keeping a rabbit, I found this expense extortionate.

Any comments??

This particular practice had been taken over by a franchise whose main aim was to make money. I have now moved vets &, despite a round trip of 80 miles, I would recommend them to anyone. The same rabbit recently had another dental & it cost £37... a big difference!!.

I have to say my vet does what he can to reduce costs for us but it can still cost so much. I cant believe they charged you £124 to clip one tooth that is extortionate. Minor treatments arent usually too bad at my vets as long as its not an emergency then its £90 just for consultation!

i took my rabbit to the emegency vet once and it cost about £68 and he prescribed all sorts of stuff that she wouldn"t take. my vet is very good and it is free health checks abd advice also when I take her for jabs he cuts her nails for free!! Think it does depend on the vet, look for the Roller parked round the back, then run!!!

I have lost count of the money zak has cost me, i have for the past 20mths paid out £208.00 every month for his vet bills and private prescription, and that is what it has cost, that is without a large bag of food every two weeks @ 24.99. and his glucosamine and metacam online which comes to another 28.99 a month, luckily tasha is healthy, xx

I have to say that I have never had that expense with my Daughters rabbit - she was only 5 (this was about 10 years ago), and the vet we saw was very good with her. She wanted to pay for the treatment of the abcess in Thumper´s (her rabbit) mouth and the vet asked her how much pocket money she had. When she said that she had saved £8 he turned round and told her that she had saved too much and that it would only cost her £5 - this was to give antibiotics, clean out the abcess and stitch the wound. Unfortunatly 3 weeks later she lost her rabbit, the vet informed us that the abcess was on top of a tumor.
All I can do is praise the vet who was willing to drop the price so much that a child could pay for the treatment of her pet.
