Cats don´t go out of walks or play as madly as dogs and so they don´t show the same symptoms of lameness or stiffness. They also tend to sleep more and be quieter, which is often taken as a sign of general old age rather than a specific problem. They also tend to groom themselves less as they become less flexible and can become matted, especially over their hind quarters which are the most difficult place to each. You have to be very observant to notice the signs of arthritis in cats. Which can include; * Being more hesitant to jump onto the furniture or your lap * Slowing down and sleeping more * Being stiff when they get up after resting * Poor coat condition, dry, flaky or matted * Change in daily routine * Change in attitude, becoming more grumpy or aggressive. Arthritis is a painful condition, but can be easily treated with medication and supplements. The medication tends to be a liquid preparation, so it is very easy to give to the cats. There are also several veterinary supplements which can be given to cats and these can reduce the amount of drugs a cat will require. If you are at all concerned, have a chat to your vet, who will be able to help you. Comments Post a comment in this discussion: |
