Discussion started by: | Discussion > How old are our oldies?ok, if this is a club for senior pets then how old are all your pets? my old lady is fudgie-cat. we don´t know exactly how old she is as she was a rescue. i got her when i was 18 and guessed her to be around a year old then as she still had a slight kitteny look to her - however, she still had that look up until last year when she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. SO...she is at least 15 but possibly quite a bit older. luckily she is still going strong. we had one of her thyroid glands removed last year and luckily the problem has not returned (yet!) she had blood tests about a month ago and thyroid levels and all else is in good working order! massive relief to hear as i don´t know what i´d do without her! she still plays quite a bit and has no trouble jumping up on to things. she loves lounging in the garden in the sun and having cuddles at bedtime :-) Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 03 Oct 2009 07:50 i have an oldie....Jasper....he´s 17 this month--a miniature longhaired daschund,he´s slowing up now and is looking his age but we´ve had him for about 14yrs now. x 03 Oct 2009 07:41 Member Removed well i lost tigger at 16 to cancer and woody is now 12, and before i joined petstreet i had a cat called bonnie and she lived to be about 18.some cats can live a lot longer. 03 Oct 2009 07:24 Fudgie-cat sounds lovely and very similar to my Toby who also has hyperthyroidism. My vet told me that removal of thyroid glands may be the future for Toby, but she also said that this is a very tricky procedure and may not have a positive outcome. Fortunately, we haven´t had to consider that yet. Toby´s roughly 13, but we can´t be 100% sure because he was a stray who came to stay and we think he´s the best thing since sliced bread! 29 Jan 2009 10:16 My oldest is Tabitha she´s coming up to 15 and a half she´s closely followed by her 2 children who are just over 14 and a half. Tabby does have a health problem but on the whole is doing very well her son Felix has been quite under the weather lately but is still carrying on, however her daughter Tiny is in great health *touch wood* you would never believe that she´s nearly a pensioner! 19 Sep 2008 14:04 Member Removed sure that kandyfloss enjoyed her final years with you debbie. very sorry that you lost her so young, 21 Aug 2008 19:29 Member Removed It is sad to think of them leaving us. I also had Kiddlie´s grandma Kandyfloss the day I collected kiddlie the breeder rang me and asked if I would like to take kandyfloss, so I did, the breeder was infact finished using her, she wasnt worth showing anymore and was no good for breeding anymore ´how sad´ she was beautiful cream colourpoint 6 years old I still miss her, she was a beautiful girl she died at only 8 years old. 18 Aug 2008 09:35 Member Removed love to kiddie glad she is doing well. My older pets are tigger who is a 15 year old tabby who the sun shines out of and woody is 11 and also a tabby and is as cute as abutton, so i suppose that is maybe middle aged . cant imagine life without either of them, upsets me to think about it! 15 Aug 2008 12:19 ahhh debbie, i´m sorry to hear that kiddlie had some problems at the start but things seem to be going really well now :-) its lovely to see them playing and running about even in their senior years. 13 Aug 2008 22:55 Member Removed My Oldie is Kiddlie my Persian, she is 12, which I always thought was old for a ped persian as the breeder she came from never had one that lived to more than 11 (why?). Kiddlie has had her problems, In her 1st year she was never away from the vets as she had Clamydia (spelt wrong probably) then a couple of year back she started having a few probs, and our vet told us that her kidneys were playing up, we took her home changed her diet, and shes like a kitten again, during the night she runs up n down stairs playing with her toys, you wouldnt think there was anything wrong with her, and since changing her diet Ive not needed to take her back to the vets for anything. I do know that sad day will come when she leaves us, and I dread that, but hope that I can make her as happy as she has made us for all the years we have had and hopefully will have with her. |
