Discussion started by: | Discussion > The Importance of MicrochippingMicrochipping is an essential part of rescue work. All dogs and cats dealt with by Hornchurch Animal Rescue are microchipped by Donna , a Kennel Club qualified microchip implanter, before they leave for their new homes. Not only is microchipping a massive help in reuniting lost pets with their owners, it makes owners accountable. We have come across many cases of abuse and neglect where the animal has been brought into rescue or taken to the pound by someone claiming to be a passer by who has found the animal when it is obvious they are the owner and responsible for the neglect or abuse. When animals are dumped by their owners there is no way of tracking them down. It makes it very difficult for the RSPCA to prosecute or fine. With and 11% increase (over 97,000) lost and abandoned dogs being dealt with in 2008 we constantly campaign for compulsory microchipping to ease the problem and this is becoming more likely. There is a possibility of your dog being lost or stolen and put to sleep after it´s 7 day period in council care. If you would like your pet microchipped for as little as £15 with all proceeds going towards the rescue animals, please contact Donna Evans.
