At Lincoln Magistrates´ Court, Kenneth King, 35, of Main Street, Ragnall, Newark, was jailed for 23 weeks. He was also banned from keeping animals for life and ordered to pay £1,500 costs after admitting eight charges including taking part in dog fights. Six other defendants were sentenced last week but King´s case was delayed after he was attacked in court. Appeals lodged King has lodged an appeal against his sentence, while two other defendants are appealing against their convictions and sentences. One is Claire Parker, 44, of Kexby, Lincolnshire, who was given 18 weeks in prison for holding dog fights at her home. The other is Mohammed Nasir Farooq, 33, of Daniels Road, Bordesley Green, Birmingham, who was found guilty on two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and possessing training equipment for dog-fighting. He was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail. King was taken to hospital after being struck around the head several times and left bleeding from his ear in a courtroom scuffle, in which another person was shot with a Taser by police Comments Post a comment in this discussion: 19 Apr 2010 21:52 the trouble is the courts dont realise the actions these so called human beings did are actually a life sentance for the animals involved the mental and physical scars run hard and deep compared to a few lousy weeks living it up. and i even bet these thugs have a better state of living than when they were on the outside! 26 Feb 2010 14:30 Member Removed i think i´ve heard the term "short, sharp, shock" in a pink floyd song. i never knew what the heck they meant by that. now it is very clear. thank you for clearing up this mystery..... ;] 26 Feb 2010 12:44 i wish uk prisons were exactly like that in the old days if a man commited a crime he was sent in to the army they called his a short sharp shock and would turn boys in to men ! by makeing them fight to protect thare country i belive this should come back lets see how tough thase dog fighters are when its them doing the fighting without the aid of a dog 26 Feb 2010 12:21 Member Removed in america noo, jails are for those awaiting trial, and those with sentences of less than a year(in most cases). after convition, you are sent to prison, where you are evaluated on lenth of sentence, type of crime, past record, security risk, and sent to the proper security level prison. they go from levels 1-5, 1 being minimum, 4 being maximum, and 5, you have to have a death row. and yes noo, it sounds like american prisions are ALOT tougher than u.k. prisons. charles dickens once wrote that you can judge a society by the conditions in its prisons. (for what thats worth). time in an american prison(even minimum security) is no joke. to bad he´s not doing hard time. 28 Jan 2010 17:52 he should have got years until they dish out decent sentences for these prats dog fights will continue 28 Jan 2010 17:32 Good on the person who whacked this pillock around the head its a pity they didn´t hit him harder. well hes away for a short holiday now thats all it is with the pitiful sentence he´s been given. 28 Jan 2010 07:04 michael uk prisions are very diffrent from the amrican jails (as i belive you guys call it ) from what is shown here the amirican prisions ( jail ) is much much much tougher here its like a holiday camp tv´s in each cell , pc with acess to the internet ...witch is someone is beinhd bars with crimes against children well it aint good if you catch my meaning ! we now have open prisons ... whare criminals have the key to the cell do so they can let them selfs in and out over all its more of a holiday camp then a prison , from what i have seen on tv shows about amrican prisons they are mutch tougher in the states its the one thing i would like to see happen here prison isnt a punishmet any more 28 Jan 2010 04:04 Member Removed who knows, in prison, sometimes a couple of months can be a life sentence. things happen hard and fast. you go in with a couple of months, and next thing you know, you got 10 years add for this or that, or maybe someone doesn´t like your charge, and now you´ve got to watch your back. i hope its not easy time in minimum security 12 Oct 2009 14:16 18 and 26 weeks? what a bloody joke eh, makes me sick, i bet the person who hit king gets a longer sentence (but well done to you for hitting that sick twisted git) 03 Oct 2009 14:39 Member Removed Sadly, this dog fighting issue is getting out of control.....It is very much in the news today and there seem to be more and more casual dog fighting sessions taking place in parks etc amongst youths and their dogs. Until there are stiffer sentences, this thing will escalate out of control.... 03 Oct 2009 07:30 FIRSTLY the the person who hit this sick human being over the head WELL DONE !!! what a pathetic sentance ......thats just a joke he will learn NOTHING he will do half that time then in a matter of WEEKS !!!!!!! he will be out and without a shadow of a doubt do this again !!! |
