I had hamsters as a child and started keeping them again when a friend was looking for a good home for a hand-reared hamster with kidney problems that wasn´t expected to live long so she didn´t want him to go to a child. Harry, a black-eyed cream Syrian, lived with us till he was 2 and a half! Then had Pickle, a very lively cinamon Syrian who´s favourite hobby was escaping from her cage. Now have Ted, a black long-haired Syrian. He loves demolishing monkey nut shells to get at the nuts inside.

Hi my name is Aysha, i don´t sleep well at nights so a friend suggested i get a hamster to keep me company, so off to the pet shop and came home home with 4 gray Russian winter dwarfs, all sisters, Tazzy (Top gun), Semera (snuggle bum), and Sausage & mash (Amicable & Grumpy) loved my little babies so much that I ended up with a 11, sadley time has passed and now i have lost all 4 siblings and Slinky (All fun coat and no knickers) and i am now down 6, gutted is the only word you can say when of your babies go, but they all had a good life, and i can only thank them for the pleasure they have given me, i now have remaining Farid & Sadiq (Robo cops) 2 little Roboroski´s boys who live togeather, the 2 chinese ladies Ying Ying & Lin Poo who also live togeather, Damion (Son of Satan) a lovely beige Russian with bless red eyes and one heck of a nip, that we have to use a ladle to get him out of his box, and last but not least Mr fluffy (Mink Syrian) and love them all to bits, and I would like to think i´ve been a good mum to them all, bless all their little cotton socks. Aysha Sadiq-Ali.

I have both Syrian & Dwarf hamsters.. All mine were unwanted by their owners for one reason or another.
Sam is a lovely Syrian male.. He was the unfortunate victim of a marriage break up. His owner rang the rspca centre near Worcester & they gave her my number direct (I´ve had many from there before as they arent geared up for small furries). I met the lady just off jct 6 of the M5 & she was clearly upset at handing him over. After a couple of days of settling in, he´s now ´one of the family´ & takes his turn having a run around the lounge every evening.
The hardest thing I´ve dealt with is the lady who rang me as her hamster population had got out of hand. They were Dwarfs & the pair had managed to produce several litters totalling 39. I asked her why she hadnt separated the pair earlier & she said " I couldnt. They got on so well".......Yes, very well actually with 39 babies. Honestly, people....!!
She wanted to keep the females but I said it wasnt a good idea as goodness knows how many of those were expecting.. I left her with 2 male youngsters & brought the rest home. After 2 weeks, I had 57 as some of the females WERE expecting. But that was the end of it. All were separated, sexed & housed on arrival. Members of the hamster club helped me out with homing & I kept the mum & remaining litter. To date, I still have mum & 3 of her children...
I have had many hamsters over the years. The garden is their shrine with over 300 little markers amongst the flowers.
I love my hamsters to bits and will do all I can to give them a happy life.
