tips for october gardening

Preparation
pot up herbs so that they can be grown inside during the winter.Lift crops that have finished harvesting and clean up the plant beds.
to do
Pull up crops that have finished harvesting and compost, plant fruit trees and bushes, tidy away garden canesthat supports your vegatables
if you have a garden pond stetch netting over it to keep leaves out start collecting leaves for a leaf mould

Great tips Claire.
My daughter grew potatoes, carrots & sweetcorn in containers (to keep them out of rabbit reach!) this year & they all did very well.

Can I add one more tip? If you have a spare corner in the garden, make a log pile for the hedgehog and/or frogs & toads to hibernate under.
Sorry, another tip (!). Tie some bamboo canes together (no more than a foot long) & hang them in a sheltered spot for the ladybirds, bees etc to hibernate in.....

I spent yesterday afternoon cutting back all my clematis but there´s still loads to do.

Some great tips thanks think i will have to put my woolies on and head out into the garden at the weekend :)
