General Information For First Time Hamster Owners

How many hamsters should I keep living together?

You should only keep one on its own as they like to have their own territiory. If you look after it well it shouldn´t get lonely.

What if I want to change my hamster´s food?

You should introduce the new food slowly to get the hamster used to it.

Should I give my hamster fruit and vegetables?

Yes, but not straight from the fridge as this can cause diarrohea. Do not give them acidic things such as tomatoes or lemon. Things with diary addditives such as mashed potatoe should not be given. PS DON´T FEED YOUR HAMSTER BUTTERCUPS (THE YELLOW FLOWERS GROWING ON YOUR LAWN) AS THEY ARE POISIONOUS!!!

How often does my hamster need cleaned out?

About once a week is usual but if your hamster messes its cage up quickly then you should clean it out more often but it should be done about once a week to avoid illness or a build up of faeces in its bed.

COMMON HAMSTER ILLNESS:

Wet tail- large amounts of diarroeha, can be fatal if not treated quickly, treated with antibiotics

Kidney infection- Blood coming from anus/uerthra area, must be treated quickly, treated with antibiotics

Cysts: These may cause bleeding or feel like lumps, some vets may remove them in surgery, other put the hamster to sleep
