advice on taming birdsPet Type Bird Issue General Health the first thing i will say is that all birds can bite. The best thing that you can do before purchasing a any bird is by them when they are young. when going to view the bird always ask to see the bird handled, especially if you are wanting a tame bird. if you didnt have that choice then here are a few ideas to get started in taming your bird no matter what age. i managed to tame my bird when it was 12 years old as i got her at that age unfortunately not tame or anything, but a she devil. oh, before we start, be prepared to be bitten, especilly with older birds. if you dont have tame bird they will be lonenly and depressd as they need company especially if you keep just the one. so, try getting a companion if you dont want try taming them, its the least we can do, is give them company. but just check with a specialist that its ok to do this due to their age breed etc firstly always speak to your bird whenever you are around them. offer them fruit and treats through the wires of the cage. do this over several weeks. its important for birds to be handled as they may need vet checks or their nails clipped. sometimes with younger birds the sooner they get into your hand the better. i ususally wait a few days and do the fruit thing and just pu tmy hand in and take hold of them gently, providing they dont fly away. this doesnt always work, so try and put your finger in front of there chest and keep practising this everyday till they put their claw one after the other onto your finger. just push against the chest gently and it should come. if none of this works use an old perch and just do the same always talking to them. happy bird taming marie |
