Darcey was handed to Many Tears at 6 weeks old as she was a puppy farmed dog who was too ill to sell. We adopted her a few days later and she has grown into the most beautiful, happy little dog I could wish for. Rescue would always be my first choice in the future rather than lining the breeders´ pockets. 07 Jul 2009 16:41 my name is Sarah and I have a six year old greyhound/lurcher called Poppy. She has been with me since she was rescued at about six months old. Don´t know where she came from, but she was very hyperactive. She has eaten a couple of Sofa´s and chairs over the years. She does not like any animal except my small Cockapoo Dottie. She suffers from seperation anxiety. Runs away if she gets the chance, but we love her all the same. 30 Apr 2009 18:04 Hi Im new to petstreet and just wanted to say hello. I have a rescue border collie x called Holly. I worked in an animal shelter and Holly came in, along with her mother, as a cruelty case. She was almost dead, bless her. I hand reared her from a few days old and she is almost 15 now. After rehabilitation her mother went to live with a super family and did very well at agility. A story with a happy end!! I have other animals too but for now I just wanted to say hi and tell you about Holly. 10 Apr 2009 15:53 Hi all rescue dog owners out there. I have owned many different rescue dogs throughout my life & also worked in resuce kennels includind dog´s trust Roden & The Border Collie Trust GB. Tinsel a collie X came into the trust at 4 months old she had been left with a local vet with a broken leg!! and so was taken into the care of the trust. When the vet took X-rays he confirmed a very bad fracture that had been done some tim!!!! It was pinned twice and there was even a chance that she may of needed the leg amputated. At the time I was working at the trust & named her Tinsel as it was a week before christmas.. Poor Tinsel was in so much pain. I worked with her every day and the trust spent hundreds of pounds on this little dog getting her better. She came home with me at around 5 months & once her stiches had been removed I started taking her swimming to the hydrotherapy pool twice a week to build hp the muscle. Tinsel is now nearly 5yrs and a total princess my little special girl!!!! she still has her hang up´s from her past. And has canine bowin treatments on her leg every now and again. Please check out the BORDER COLLIE TRUST OF GB if you were looking to take on a collie or collie X they are always bursting at the seams and do such a wonderful job on such small funds!!!! 21 May 2008 15:55 We took Tiny to her new vet today for a check up. She has a small cyst on her right side and one on her left paw. Her ears are clearing up nicely. She also has some inflamation in her hind legs. Other than that she is doing really well and now weighs 30.01Kg. 20 May 2008 21:33 Hi, I'm called Tiny and am about 4 years old. I am a long haired German Sheppard and I was rescued by Dogs Trust. My previous owner was unkind to me and locked me in a small room. I was rarely fed and was very hungry. The kind people at Dogs Trust looked after me very well. They groomed me to remove my knotted fur and put medicine in my ears to help clear up the infection in them. They also fed me four times a day and I now weigh 26Kg. I thought I was in heaven. I shared a kennel with another dog. Then my new family came and walked me. They kept coming back to see me and on friday 16th they took me to my new home. They gave me some toys, but I like my ball best of all, and we go for long walks. I still get fed four times a day and get treats as well. They are teaching me to walk to heel, sit, lie down, stay and to come when they call me, and I enjoy doing it as I get lots of cuddles and attention from them. I get tired very quickly but I dont mind because they love me and I love them. Now I know what it is like to have a family that really cares for me and I am so happy. 27 Apr 2008 13:13 I rescued my beautiful Springer Bonnie Feb just gone. We fostered her because of all of the health problems that she had due to neglect and cruelty. She was found wandering the street with a number of other Springers, all of them suffering from terrible health problems, but the 2 bitches, Bonnie and another were the worst. They had recently had pups and it was presumed that a breeder had dumped the dogs because they were "worn out". The other bitch sadly died during her op leaving Bonnie as the only surviving girl. Another had to have his eye removed. Our beautiful girl had to have a tumour removed from her rear leg, 2 nipples with tumours removed and have treatment for kennel cough. Luckily she pulled through despite also being malnourished and the tumours were from spending too much time lying on a hard floor and feeding her pup, but they were tested and were not cancerous. We took her home as soon as we could and spent every the past nearly 3 months making weekly trips to the vets (sometimes more than once in a week!). 3 weeks ago she had to go for another op as she had a tumour in her neck which was causing concern and a nipple that had become painful and abscessed. The rescue centre was very supportive (as they have been all along) and began an appeal to raise the money for her op which they managed to raise in roughly 2 weeks. (They have since had to begin appealing from money for 2 other dogs that need extensive treatment and I will give their web address at the end if you want to check out the work they do and perhaps donate if you can afford to). Bonnie has now had yet another nipple and another tumour removed and seems to finally be on the right track. She has put on weight and looks fabulous her only problem now being her arthritis in her legs, but her pain killers control that well. We now (provided all goes as it should) not have to go to the vets (except of course to monitor her weight) until October! So rewarding. She has even started to speak to me recently and she has not made a sound at all since we have had her, nor while at the rescue centre but she now makes a cute rumbley purring noise when I tickle under her chin. If you have the time to put in, rescuing a dog is so rewarding because they give back so much and seeing the improvements they make thanks to your love and care is so satisfying. If you want to check it out the fabulous centre we rescued Bonnie from here’s the address: www.NCAR.org.uk You can find Bonnie’s story and appeal on the “latest news” page. Donations are still needed for operations for 2 other dogs, Moose who sadly has cancer and Jake who needs to have his leg re-set as one of the bones is not growing properly. 21 Apr 2008 21:58 My old dog who has passed away had 10 different owners in the space of 3 weeks as he was supposed to be a collie cross but he looked just like a black lab with 1 white stripe down his cheast and i guess its not what people wanted when my dad found an add of the owner giving him away or she'd put him in a shelter when we got him he was a friendly young pup but you could tell he had been abused and unloved but luckly we saw past his looks and saw his charm besides he was a beautiful dog to us ... | Club Members Our Films |
