Here are the answers to some questions we get asked from users regarding the functionality of the site. If you can't find the answers to your questions here, get in touch with us at feedback@petstreet.co.uk

What is a blog?

A blog (the word is an abbreviation of 'weblog') is just an online journal where you can share your thoughts with oneone who visits your PetStreet page. Entries to a blog are displayed chronologically, with the most recent entries at the top. Readers can also respond and comment on your blog, as well as reading the comments of other users. You have complete control over your blog, so you can edit and delete entries or comments whenever you want.

How do I upload images?

Uploading images to PetStreet is easy. First off all, check that your image is in a jpeg format - this is the standard format of all pictures from a digital camera or camera phone. You can upload images whenever you want - just visit your homepage and click the 'upload image' button. You can also update your personal picture, or the picture that represents your pet, by clicking the 'edit profile' link.

Images uploaded to PetStreet will automatically be resized to the appropriate width when uploading - but for best effect, and to make the upload process faster, you can do this yourself. You'll need a graphics program, such as Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro, in which you should open your image. Using the resize function, reduce the image size to the appropriate width (which is displayed on the page you are uploading from), and save using the "Save For Web" feature (or equivalent). Then use that file to upload to the website.

How do I join a group?

If you see a group you're interested in, you can join simply by clicking the 'join group' link from the group homepage. Once you're a member of a group, you can comment on blog entries and leave messages for other group members.

How do I start a group?

If you don't see a group that's of interest to you, you can start one of your own. Groups can be about anything and everything - to start a group, just visit the Groups homepage and click Create a new group.

How to I post an event on the calendar?

Any PetStreet member can post an event to the PetStreet calendar. Make sure you've logged into the website, the simply click the 'Add an event' link on the Calendar homepage.

How do I post a comment?

Only PetStreet members can leave comments on the blogs of other users. To add your comment, just click the Comments link underneath the blog posting and type your message into the text box provided. You can leave comments under your name, or alternatively, under the name of any of your registered pets.

How do I delete material from my own and my pets' pages?

You have complete control over all the content on your page and the pages of your pets. Once you've logged into the website, simply click My Homepage and use the controls to edit the page as you wish. To edit an existing blog entry, or to delete a comment on your blog, click on the comments link next to the entry and then just click delete.

How do I send a message to another member?

There are two ways to communicate with another PetStreet member. To contact another member, simply visit their homepage and click 'send me a message'. You can then chose whether to post your message directly onto their page (where anyone who visits the page will be able to see it), or to send a message directly to them via email. You can also choose to do both, so they receive an email alerting them to the message on their page. Remember that you need to be logged in to the website to send a message, and that you can post messages as yourself or any of the pets you're registered with on PetStreet.

How do I become a friend of a pet or owner on the site?

It's easy! Just click the 'Be my friend' link on their homepage, and you'll automatically appear in their list of friends.

How do I rate videos and pictures?

When you see a star rating of a video or picture, this is generated from the average votes of all our members. To make your rating, simply hover your mouse over the stars until it shows the vote you wish to give, and click to save.

What should I do if I want to complain the or query something I find on the site?

PetStreet is all about building a successful and vibrant community of users. We believe that users should all be able to express their opinions, but that equally all members have a responsibility to act with respect and sensitivity to other users. If you'd like to report any unacceptable content or behaviour in the PetStreet community, please email feedback@petstreet.co.uk.
