Using Petstreet is simple. All buttons look like

In the MY PHOTOS section of your profile page, choose upload new album. Uploading is the term used when a photograph stored on your computer is transferred (uploaded) to your page on PetStreet. For speedy uploading, please enable our widget. This won’t affect anything else on your computer. Create a title for your album and choose a cover picture by selecting BROWSE, then UPLOAD, then SAVE. You can choose photos to put in your album in exactly the same way. Once you have created an album, you can use these photos in other places on Petstreet, for example as an entry in our Pet Idol contest or to show to other members when you join a Petstreet Club.

In the MY BLOGS section of your profile page, choose Post New Blog Entry. Create a title, write your blog, then press SAVE. It’s as easy as that!

There are two ways to send a message to another Petstreet member: If you wish to send a private message, which only that member can read, go to his or her profile page and click Send Me A Message. Write your message and then press SEND. If another member sends you a message, you can respond by press REPLY.

If you wish to post a message on your own profile page which everyone can read, choose MY MESSAGE WALL, then Post a Message. When you have finished writing in the My Comments section, then press SAVE. You can also go to another member’s wall and post a public message for them – just go to the MY MESSAGE WALL section on their profile page and follow the same actions.

Any new private email for you from another Petstreet member will be waiting for you in your online Inbox. Just click the Inbox button which is in the right hand column of your screen.

If you know that person or pet is on our site, then just visit their profile page and click be my friend. That person will receive an email request to be your friend.

If you don’t know if someone is a Petstreet member, and want to check, then go to the MY HUMAN/PET FRIENDS section on your profile page. Type their name in the search box and click SEARCH.

To invite someone who is not already a Petstreet member to be your friend, click the invite button. Choose the friend(s) you wish to invite and send the invitation. We promise that your friend(s) will not receive spam mail because you have done this, and that we will not pass your friends’ email addresses on to anyone else – in fact we won’t even see the email addresses you use to invite them!

Just click CLUBS in the menu across the top of your screen. Once you’re there, use the SEARCH CLUBS box to find a Club for people who share your interest. Once you’ve found a club you’d like to join, just click JOIN CLUB. You can then start joining in discussions and uploading photos to this group.

Either follow the New Club link on the left hand side of your profile page, or go to the Clubs page. Click on create a new club. Write a title and description for the new club and then press SAVE. You can also upload a photo to best represent your Club. Once you have created this Club, you will be the Club Owner. Only you will be able to use the EDIT and DELETE buttons, to delete this Club or any unwanted club members, or to write your Club’s individual description.

Click Forums in the menu at the top of your screen. Once there click on a topic (e.g. Dogs or Cats) which interests you and choose a particular discussion to join. Click ADD POST and then SAVE. To start a new discussion, click CREATE NEW DISCUSSION and then SAVE.

Click Events in the menu at the top of your screen. On the Events page, click new event. Fill in all the boxes with the required information (time, date, event description and venue etc.) and then click SAVE. You can also use the SEARCH box on this page to look for events which might interest you.

Petstreet welcomes factsheets created by members who have in-depth knowledge of a particular aspect of animal care, behaviour or health. Choose FACTSHEETS in the menu at the top of your screen. Once there, click ADD NEW FACTSHEET and when you have finished, click SAVE. Please note that there will be a delay before your factsheet appears, as our resident vet will need to check it before it appears on Petstreet.

Here is a step by step guide to uploading videos on to petstreet:

If you already have a Google account go to step 2.

1. Create a Google account.
1.1) Go to http://video.google.co.uk
1.2) Click on blue ´upload video´ button at the right of the screen.
1.3) Click on ´Create an account now´ at the bottom right of the screen
1.4) Follow the intstructions to create your account.

2. Upload a video to your Google account.
2.1) At http://video.google.co.uk, click on the blue ´Upload video´ button on the right of the screen.
2.2) If not already signed in. Sign in using your Google username and password.
2.3) Fill in the page and press upload video.
2.4) Once upload is complete, click on the ´See all your uploaded videos´ option
2.5) If you are happy to do so click on ´I accept the terms of service>>´
2.6) You will be taken to a screen showing your videos uploaded. Click on the title of the video you want to display in petstreet.
2.7) In the address bar at the top of the screen you will see something resembling this:

copy all the digits after the ´=´ sign including the ´-´ . For example from the above we would copy -7397266126812860361

3. Add your video to petstreet
3.1) In petstreet click on ´Add new film´
3.2) Paste the copied info (e.g. -7397266126812860361) in the field provided
3.3) Press the save button after entering a title and description

Congratulations your video is now available on petstreet!

Any rescue or rehoming centre who wants to use our REHOMING section, needs to contract the Editor (editor@petstreet.co.uk) in order to be enabled to set up a page. Once this has happened, then go to REHOMING and click Upload New Rehoming Centre. This will take you to your own profile page for your rescue centre. Fill in the name, create a description and upload a logo or photo for your centre – then press SAVE. Once you have done this, press EDIT to add blogs or photos, then SAVE.

You can create a page for each pet looking for a new home by clicking NEW PET. Fill in the name and description of each animal, plus a summary of the home that would ideally suit them, (in the I’M LOOKING FOR… box) and click SAVE.

Go to REHOMING and use the SEARCH facility at the top of the page. You can search by keyword, location or type of pet. You can also use the REHOMING pages to send a message to a rehoming centre in your area.
